Welcome to Zero Your Carbon. My name is Linda Owen. I am a mother, a midwife and the founder of ZYC.
After a couple of long hot summers and continual weather broadcasts saying 2, 3, 5 or more degrees above average, I began to question and then investigate what was going on. I was very aware of environmental issues but nothing to this magnitude. There was no information on the news, occasional programs on non-commercial stations late at night telling us of dire consequences of global warming. Most people missed these.
As the years went by I've noticed my anxiety subtly increasing about the future awaiting us if global warming continues without the world making changes.
For some time I, like many of my friends would acknowledge it but in general we hoped it would go away. After lengthy internet searches it became very clear that this was serious, more serious than we had been told on mainstream media. Finally the penny dropped for me and one morning I awoke feeling more disturbed about our future. From that moment I was compelled to assist the campaign of awareness and education about global warming and the serious consequences to our lives if we do not support, as I call it… A New Thinking!
First, I need to say this right up front- I admit to fully enjoying the
good things in life plus the comforts and time saving devices of modern
living.... However, things in my household are changing. My mission is
to be a consumer with a conscience - an alternate lifestyler with a
modern twist. I know we don't have to sacrifice when making changes.
You can call me a citizen journalist- trying to bridge the gap between
science/ politicians/ media and the people. I'm doing the research and
together we can work this out, so sit back and enjoy the read, videos
and photos too- it is a bit like a journal of our experiences.
ZYC was established to give an overview of the problem of global
warming, then to highlight the simple solutions available to us all.
Here at ZYC we feel we are all responsible- morally, environmentally
The relationship between humans and nature has been understated. It is now an economic imperative - without a cleaner world we cannot have a viable economy. We would like to refigure the mindset of the mainstream to think like
alternate lifestylers with a modern twist. We can have compassionate
Treat your carbon output like your financial budget- reduce your

For the last 8 months there has been continual coverage of all issues relating to global warming which has at last spurred on incredible debate, public awareness and pressure on governments to make changes.
The science is overwhelming, the technologies are available – we just need to spread the word. Alarmism is not our attitude, it is awareness- the penny has to drop. Every small step adds up to a collaborative effort. We need commitment and goals to make it work, starting from the top.
